Starting from June 2026, employees in Malaysia may notice a new deduction on their payslip — Lindung 24 Jam (SKBBK).

Many employees and employers have questions about this new PERKESO protection scheme:

  • Is Lindung 24 Jam compulsory?
  • Can employees choose to opt out?
  • Who needs to pay the contribution?
  • What type of accidents are covered?
  • What happens if an employee changes jobs?

This guide explains everything you need to know about Lindung 24 Jam, including eligibility, contribution rates, coverage, and the opt-out decision.

What Is Lindung 24 Jam (SKBBK)?

Lindung 24 Jam (SKBBK) is a PERKESO social security protection scheme that provides coverage for employees against non-work-related accidents that occur within Malaysia.

Unlike existing workplace injury protection, Lindung 24 Jam extends protection beyond working hours, covering accidents that happen during an employee’s personal time.

Examples of Covered Accidents:

✅ Accident at home
✅ Road accidents during personal travel
✅ Sports or recreational activities
✅ Accidents during personal activities

What Does Lindung 24 Jam Not Cover?

Although the scheme provides 24-hour accident protection, it does not cover every type of situation.

The following are excluded:

❌ Work-related accidents
❌ Illnesses or medical conditions such as cancer, heart disease, or dengue
❌ Accidents occurring outside Malaysia

Is Lindung 24 Jam Compulsory?

Malaysian Employees

For Malaysian employees, participation in Lindung 24 Jam is voluntary.

Employees who do not wish to participate may choose to opt out by submitting the required declaration to PERKESO.

However, the opt-out request must be submitted before:

📅 31 August 2026

If an employee does not submit the opt-out declaration before the deadline, participation will continue automatically.

Foreign Employees

For foreign employees, participation in Lindung 24 Jam remains mandatory.

Can Employees Opt Out After 31 August 2026?

Generally, employees will not be able to opt out after the deadline.

The opt-out opportunity provided by PERKESO is a one-time option.

Employees who remain in the scheme should take note that:

  • Their participation will generally continue even if they change employers.
  • The decision to stay or opt out may affect their futire accidnet protection coverage.

Therefore, employees should carefully evaluate their personal needs before making a decision.

Can Employees Rejoin Lindung 24 Jam After Opting out?

Yes.

Employees who have previously opted out may choose to participate in Lindung 24 Jam again.

However, the rejoining process will depend on the procedures and requirements set by PERKESO.

Is the June 2026 Contribution Still Payable?

Yes.

The June 2026 Lindung 24 Jam contribution remains payable.

This is because the scheme officially started on 1 June 2026, at a time when participation was still mandatory for Malaysian employees.

The later decision to make participation voluntary does not change the contribution obligation for June 2026.

How Much Is the Lindung 24 Jam Contribution?

The contribution is calculated based on the employee’s monthly wages, subject to a maximum wage ceiling of RM6,000.

PhasePeriodContribution RateMaximum Monthly Contribution

Phase 21 June 2028 – 31 May 20311.00%RM60

Who Pays the Contibution?

The contribution is generally paid by the employee.

However, employers may voluntarily choose to cover the contribution cost on behalf of their employees.

How Much Will Be Deducted From Your Salary?

During Phase 1, employees contribute 0.75% of their monthly wages, up to the RM6,000 wage ceiling.

Examples:

Monthly SalaryEstimated Contribution
RM3,000RM22.50
RM5,000RM37.50
RM6,000 and aboveRM45 (maximum)

Employees hould check payslip to understand how the deduction appears after implementation.

Why Was Lindung 24 Jam Introduced?

Many employees already contribute to PERKESO and may wonder why another protection scheme is needed.

The main difference is that Lindung 24 Jam provides additional protection for non-worked-related accidents, including accidents that happen outside working hours.

For example:

  • An employee injured in a personal road accident
  • An employee involved in a sports accident
  • An employee injured at home

These situations may not fall under traditional workplace accident protection but may be covered under Lindung 24 Jam.

What Should employees Consider Before Opting Out?

Before deciding whether to stay in or opt out, employees should consider:

If You Stay In:

✅ Receive additional accident protection within Malaysia
✅ Enjoy protection outside working hours
✅ Coverage extends to personal activities

If You Opt Out:

❌ You will not receive protection under Lindung 24 Jam
❌ You may lose access to this additional accident coverage unless you successfully rejoin later according to PERKESO procedures

What Should Employers Know?

Employers should ensure that they:

✅ Inform employees about the Lindung 24 Jam scheme
✅ Remind employees about the 31 August 2026 opt-out deadline
✅ Ensure payroll deductions are handled correctly
✅ Maintain proper records of employee participation status
